Year 13s Take on Tanzania: Teamwork, Tanks and the Dirty Water Walk

After much preparation and a fantastic fundraising effort, our Year 13 students have safely touched down in Tanzania for their 14-day adventure with Go MAD (Make A Difference) in Tanzania—one of the standout co-curricular projects at Thames. Go MAD is a charity that gets volunteers hands-on with impactful community projects across East Africa, including building schools, clean water systems and offering vital medical and social care. Following an overnight stay in Nairobi, the students braved a nine hour bus ride to the Tanzanian border, then onwards to Musoma on Lake Victoria. Day one kicked off with the eye-opening "Dirty Water Walk," where they experienced the tough realities of villagers collecting poor-quality water from contaminated sources. Based at Eagle Lodge, just outside Musoma, they’ll be rolling up their sleeves, working alongside locals and volunteers to build water tanks and goat sheds. This trip is all about teamwork, learning new skills and making a real difference. More updates to come, Wi-Fi permitting—wish the team luck!
