Sixth form admissions

Our A level provision is intended to give pupils an excellent platform from which to go on to higher education or employment.

Alongside their A level subjects, students engage in an exciting co-curricular programme to develop excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills. This includes workplace mentoring, independent volunteering, real world skills, leadership development and sport. The development of these skills sets our students apart, preparing them for a successful future.

Staff at Thames take time to invest deeply in each student, helping them to develop compassion and respect, wisdom, confidence and resilience. Small group teaching, individualised learning and pastoral support embed an atmosphere of trust and respect rooted in a Christian ethos. Excellent teaching and academic support along with the freedom to pursue individual interests within small group environments make Thames an ideal environment in which to study A levels.

Our new purpose built facility next to Clapham Junction station has been designed with A levels in mind. Sixth Form students benefit from a common room, a quiet study room and separate seminar rooms along with the extensive specialist facilities for science, art, design technology, music and drama. On sunny days they are able to study or socialise on the rooftop courtyard.

  • To apply for the Thames Sixth Form please return the completed application form together with:

    • Your most recent school report including GCSE grade predictions
    • Registration fee of £150
    • Passport sized photo
    • A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate
    • Any additional information you would like us to consider

The deadline for external applications is Monday 4 November 2024 for entry into Year 12 in September 2025. Each student will be required to attend an interview where their subject choices, interests and aspirations will be discussed. External applicants will sit an assessment and will require a reference from their current school. Late applications may be considered depending on availability of subject options.

For current Thames students, discussions over Sixth Form options will take place throughout Year 11.

Thames is a mainstream school with recognised provision for a small number of pupils with mild Specific Learning Difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or dyscalculia. Pupils are expected to complete an A level curriculum and expectations of behaviour and personal responsibility are high. If your child has Special Educational Need or a disability you may make an appointment for an informal discussion with the SENDCo to discuss your child’s needs and any reasonable adjustments they may require. The school is unable to provide for pupils who require an alternative curriculum.

All applications are handled in complete confidence and the decision of our Head is final. The school is not obliged to state reasons for rejection of an applicant. For further information please call the school on 020 7228 3933.

  • Fees are £9,816 per term inclusive of VAT and it hoped that fees will be held at this level until September 2026. For existing families along with those that accept a place by 3rd March 2025 and where fees are paid personally by the family this increase will be phased in. Fees may be paid in advance, termly or monthly by direct debit.

“Pupils display excellent attitudes to their learning across the curriculum. They are well motivated to succeed and say this is because teaching supports their individual needs highly effectively and enables them to develop the confidence to aim for long term success.”
