“Thames is an established independent school in a brand new setting right by Clapham Junction station. We founded Thames in 2000, and now in our third decade, these are exciting times for the school.”
A message from the Head
At Thames we see the individual first and work hard to create a learning environment that delivers positive outcomes.
Founded almost 25 years ago Thames is both the academic and the creative choice for your child. Situated adjacent to the major transport hub of Clapham Junction in a bespoke RIBA National Award-winning building, it is also the London choice for parents looking for an education that prepares their child to navigate life successfully.
What sets Thames apart is its genuine commitment to each and every individual. Staff are committed to nurturing the gifts and talents of every pupil, seeing each individual as unique and a story waiting to be told.
Strong staff retention, smaller classes and excellent pastoral care together with personalised learning enable us to challenge and support each individual. Our ethos, underpinned by compassion, respect and humility along with a phone fee school, enables young people to understand their inherent value and grow in confidence.
We take pride in our pupils’ achievements. A rich curriculum in the lower school is followed by an exceptionally flexible choice of options at GCSE and A level where pupils can continue with a broad range of subjects in the sciences, humanities, languages or arts or to specialise in one or two of these areas.
Our award winning building comprises state of the art facilities for practical and creative subjects from science laboratories to art, textiles, woodwork and STEM workshops, a cookery room, specialist studios for music, dance and drama, and a theatre with professional sound and lighting. A vibrant sports program makes excellent use of specialist indoor and outdoor sports facilities a few minutes walk away.
We believe that subjects like maths and science should coexist harmoniously along with the creative disciplines fostering problem solving and creative thinking which are essential skills in the age of AI and the demands of the modern workplace. A varied array of co-curricular clubs, societies, camps and overseas trips, including the school’s award-winning trip to rural Tanzania, further enable pupils to develop life skills beyond an academic curriculum.
Our Sixth Form offers a very intentional programme of personal development and life skills alongside A levels, ensuring that Sixth Form students leave exceptionally well prepared for life. Our sixth formers are encouraged to embrace independence and responsibility, planning their study timetables to utilise our specialist facilities including the sixth form study, labs and art and STEM studios. Witnessing the growth and leadership development of our initial Sixth Form cohort has been truly remarkable and they have been well rewarded with a wide range of University offers.
If you would like to find out more about Thames, we would love to hear from you.
