Thames Showcases Diverse Talents at Performing Arts Evening

Just after half term, Thames put on a Performing Arts Evening, featuring drama, dance and musical theatre, as well as choirs and instrumentalists. Musical items included Cat and Mice Games, by Malcolm Abbs based on the poems Cats by Eleanor Farjeon and Mice by Rose Fyleman, sung enthusiastically by the Year 7 choir. Cats sleep anywhere - but will they catch the mice? Instrumental highlights featured Caleb on viola, Hugo on clarinet, piano solos including Schubert’s Impromptu in Gb Major from Robyn and a piano duet by Debussy played by Robyn and Sacha. The instrumental ensemble gave a stirring rendition of Gustav Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets.

The second half of the programme featured numbers from the musical Godspell, with standout performances from Ana, Talia, Rufus, Ava, Isaac and Joshua. Together with the choir, they had been rehearsing for the previous five weeks with Dr Paul Mitchell, Director of Music, and professional choreographer Anna Griffith.

The event showcased Thames' diverse performing arts community, the impact of the school's state of the art facilities, and highlighted the students' commitment to artistic excellence.
