Year 13 Take Over Parliament: Snap Elections, Debates, and Nap-Time Policies!

This week, our Year 13 students embarked on an enriching trip to the Houses of Parliament. The day started with a full tour of the Palace of Westminster, where they had the chance to visit both chambers and observe live debates. In the House of Commons, they witnessed a discussion on building regulations following the Grenfell report, where the Kensington MP spoke. Over in the House of Lords, the chamber was packed as peers debated amendments regarding the addition of folic acid to bread flour. The timing of the visit, just after Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs), made for a bustling Central Lobby, with MPs engaging with constituents and lobbyists. Later, students participated in a workshop running a mock snap election, and creative public speaking. Among the policies discussed, lower train fares and mandatory school nap times were popular!
