SENDCo (KS4/KS5) - ASAP or January 2025

The launch of our sixth form in September 2023 has opened up an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic and dedicated staff team in a small but growing CReSTeD registered independent school.  We are looking for a committed individual with appropriate SpLD qualifications and a passion for helping pupils succeed. The successful applicant will lead the SEND provision at KS4 and KS5 working alongside the KS3 SENDCo and an excellent pastoral care team. The SEND department consists of a KS3 SENDCo and several highly qualified learning support teachers and learning support assistants.

This role is part time 0.6 to 0.8 FTE.

Thames is a thriving mainstream and diverse independent secondary school rated Excellent by ISI. The school is located next to Clapham Junction station, in a brand new, purpose built premises. The recent CReSTeD inspection report stated: “Thames should be a blueprint for all schools aiming to meet the needs of mainstream students, alongside those with additional learning needs.”

Some pupils have mild specific learning needs, most commonly dyslexia. A small number of pupils may have other diagnoses such as ASD, ADD or ADHD. A very small number have EHCPs.

The role:

  • Leading the SEND provision across KS4 and KS5

  • Guiding in class learning support assistants and specialist learning support teachers towards effective support for their pupils

  • Working with classroom teachers in the planning and preparation of programmes of learning

  • Liaison with local authorities, the school and parents regarding any EHCP pupils including the planning and organising of annual reviews

  • Maintaining records of pupils’ progress

  • Assisting the pupils to have access to the full Thames Christian School curriculum using the school resources including assessing and applying for public exam access arrangements.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a graduate with a relevant good honours degree and appropriate SpLD qualifications

  • Be a creative, inventive and dedicated practitioner with a real passion for supporting pupils to achieve their best

  • Have experience in either the private or maintained sector.

  • Be confident working within a cloud-based IT system

  • Have an exceptional eye for detail

  • Be excited by the school’s vision and respect the school’s values.
