Photography Competition

We recently introduced the first Thames photography competition. Over half term we invited pupils to take and submit photographs inspired by lockdown in the categories of people, architecture and nature. Over 50 entries were received, some of which were outstanding, making judging tough. Four prizes were awarded.

  • In third place was Matilda, Year 7, who submitted a self portrait with a beautiful and unusual composition with rich and vibrant colours.

  • In second place, Cecilia, Year 8, with a stunning, close up of a delicate flower sharply in focus, almost paper-like detail captured in a short depth of field.

  • In joint first place was Tsion, Year 10, with an evocative black and white photojournalistic shot capturing the mood at a George Floyd rally.

  • Sharing first place was Freya, Year 8, with a superbly composed photo of a cyclist in Battersea Park during lockdown with a shaft of sunlight coming through the clouds as he cycles past.

Congratulations to all four photographers for their excellent, imaginative work and thanks to all those who participated for their efforts. Following its success, we anticipate that this competition will become an annual event, lockdown or no lockdown.
