The Thames sports programme aims to develop five specific characteristics: resilience, problem solving, proactivity, communication and teamwork. We achieve this through practical Physical Education sessions, PE theory lessons and games afternoons.
Each week pupils receive two hours of PE, one hour of physical activity and one hour of classroom based learning. During practical sessions, pupils apply the health and skill related fitness learnt in the classroom. Pupils work towards a leadership certificate and carry out project based work.
All pupils participate in games afternoons which provide regular opportunities to represent the school in sporting fixtures. The games afternoons consist of three strands: traditional team sports such as football, rugby and netball, individual sports such as badminton, athletics, tennis and table tennis and recreational sports such as self defence and fitness. Pupils are encouraged to engage in all types of sport throughout their time at Thames with the aim that they find something they will participate in long after they have left school.
PE lessons take place in our new hall, while Falcon Park and Caius House continue to be used for afternoon sport and matches. For more information on the sports played at Thames including all the latest fixtures, teams and results click here.
Pupils are also encouraged to attend sporting clubs as a co-curricular option. These activities are a mixture of masterclass sessions and recreational sports including some from around the world such as petanque and ultimate frisbee.
